Cathedral Treasury Museum in Troia (FG)

Works > Public works

2006

The Diocesan Museum of Troia is located in the heart of the town and it’s part of a complex
including the XII century Cathedral and the XVIII century Bishop’s Palace. The space we worked
on was once a school and a seminary, built in 1950s. On one hand we had to provide for the
technological infrastructures, to ensure the preservation of all the pieces, which are both
valuable and historically priceless (they cover a period of time of 8 centuries); on the other hand
it was crucial for us that the cultural and historical message of the display was readily attainable
for all the visitors.
In order to make the “collection” of artworks and relics easier to comprehend and enjoy we
chose to favour a dynamic and flexible approach: we removed any architectural barriers and
arranged a series of “paths” to offer a more flexible visit to the museum, with any information
needed at the entrances of the rooms. The spaces has been furnished with security fittings and
fixtures to preserve and protect the pieces and to make the rooms comfortable for the visitors.
The exhibition is organized into four sections: “Silvers, bronzes and ivories”; “Volumes and
Parchment scrolls”; “Paraments” and “Exultet”. There are also large accessory rooms to host
cultural activities.
