Built over the town walls, the “Castello d’Oriente” is first mentioned in a 1042 parchment. It probably included the church and San Bartolomeo’s convent, later dedicated to San Girolamo or to San Domenico.
The church and the convent – the latter was enlarged in 1700 – were inhibited by the Domenican friars until 1810, when the Napoleonic laws shut it down for good.
The building became a propriety of the municipality and in time it has suffered bad reworking and adjustment, even important ones due to different dedications, but it still maintains the appearance of a fortress.
Our client intend to make the former convent into a social-
It will accommodate an historical archive, the town library, a congress room, study and multimedial rooms, Social Services’ offices, "Piano di Zona" offices, the Public Centre to Access to Digital Services" and a gallery for temporary art exhibits.
This architectonic compound, which joins the town historic centre and the expansion areas, regain possession of his image and his role as worthy social and cultural centre of aggregation.
