The compound of the former convent of San Francesco (which, together with the church dates back to 1050 San Martino Monastery ad was lately enlarged and made in Barocco style by Montevergine friars, in 1737).
After its dissolution, in 1809 due to Napoleonic laws, the convent was first used as military barracks and afterwards, in the last century, as a district prison, magistrates’ court, theatre and again as barracks for Carabinieri. Starting from 1960s the building has been slowly but progressively neglected and has decayed, until a part of the eaves finally collapsed.
We consolidated the structure, restored the facade and made over the roofings.
